ATLANTA, GA – The Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) announced Volleyball Players of the Week for Week 3 on Tuesday, September 19. Benedict's Cana Smith was named Offensive Player of the Week, while Miles' Chaiza Jones was named Defensive Player of the Week. Also recognized were Allen's Kayla Chambliss, named Setter of the Week, and Benedict's Desire' Young, named Newcomer of the Week.
 
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Cana Smith, Benedict College
Middle Blocker/Right-Side Hitter | Senior | Houston, Texas
Smith averaged 15 kills per match over four matches, and her team, Benedict, had a record of 3 wins and 1 loss during that time. In one particular victory over Johnson C. Smith, Cana Smith had an impressive double-double performance, recording 18 kills and 16 digs.

NEWCOMER OF THE WEEK – Desire' Young, Benedict College

In an impressive display of skill and athleticism, freshman standout Desire' Young shone brightly on the volleyball court last week, contributing significantly to Benedict's commendable 3-1 record in their four matches. Young's remarkable performance included an average of 10 kills per game and 2.5 blocks, undoubtedly establishing herself as a rising star on the team. Notably, Young's season reached its pinnacle when she delivered a stunning 17 kills, accompanied by 2 blocks, in a thrilling showdown against Johnson C. Smith. Her dominance continued as she recorded 15 kills and 3 blocks in a commanding performance against Savannah State. These remarkable statistics demonstrate Young's undeniable impact on the Lady Tigers' recent success, and she is undoubtedly a player to watch as the season progresses.
