ORANGEBURG, S.C. – Claflin scored the first 11 points of the game and never trailed as the Lady Panthers took a 73-61 victory over Benedict College in a non-conference women's basketball contest on Thursday night.
Claflin led by as many as 16 points in the first quarter, 20-4, and had a 22-11 lead heading into the second quarter. Claflin built the lead to as many as 22 points in the second quarter and held a 37-19 lead at the break.
Benedict was able to cut the lead to seven points, 63-56, with 3:09 left to play after a 3-pointer by
Ghylissa Knowles. That would be as close as the Lady Tigers would get.
Benedict falls to 2-11 overall. Claflin improves to 6-7.
Taylor Christmas led the Lady Tigers with 14 points.
Aaliyah Lawrence added 10 points.
Benedict travels to take on Clark Atlanta on Saturday.
