COLUMBIA, S.C. – Albany State hit a 3-pointer with just under two minutes left to play to break a tie game and held on to take a 53-50 victory over the Benedict College Lady Tigers in a SIAC women's basketball contest on Saturday in the Benjmain E. Mays HRC Arena.
The Lady Tigers rallied from a nine-point deficit in the third quarter and an eight-point deficit in the fourth quarter to tie the game at 48 with 2:07 left to play. Albany State's Elisa Saffold hit a 3-pointer with 1:54 remaining. Benedict's
Alaysia Nash scored with 1:08 remaining to make it 51-50. Albany State missed three shots on their end of the court and the Lady Tigers missed a 3-pointer with six seconds left. Albany State sank a pair of free throws with three seconds left for the final score.
Benedict falls to 3-13 overall and 1-8 in the SIAC. Albany State improves to 3-16 overall and 3-7 in the SIAC.
Aniyah Scales led the Lady Tigers with 18 points. Benedict shot a season-low 26.2 percent (17-of-65) from the field.
Benedict continues its home stand on Monday, taking on Fort Valley State at 5:30 p.m.
