MOBILE, Ala. – The Benedict College women's basketball team snapped a seven-game losing streak with a 61-58 victory over Spring Hill College on Thursday.
Amaya Ashby scored a season-high 15 points while grabbing a season-high 10 rebounds for a double-double to lead the Lady Tigers.
Taylor Christmas added 14 points.
Alaysia Nash scored 10 points, reaching double figures for the third straight game.
Benedict improves to 2-9 on the season and 1-5 in the SIAC. Spring Hill falls to 2-8 overall and 2-4 in the SIAC.
Benedict led the entire first half and had a 33-20 lead at the half, and opened the third quarter with a 3-pointer by Christmas for their largest lead of the game, 36-20. The Badgers rallied and outscored Benedict 11-1 to close out the period to take their first lead of the game, 42-41.
The Lady Tigers scored six straight points midway in the fourth quarter to take a 54-47 lead, but Spring Hill scored the next seven points to tie the game. A 3-pointer by Nash gave Benedict the lead for good, 57-54 with 3:10 remaining.
Benedict continues its Alabama road trip and is back in action on Saturday afternoon to take on Tuskegee.
