COLUMBIA, S.C. – Benedict College won three sets in a row after dropping the first set to defeat Edward Waters 3-1 in a SIAC women's volleyball match on Friday night in the Benjamin E. Mays HRC Arena.
Benedict won the match 20-25, 25-11, 25-17, 25-21 to improve to 17-9 overall and 11-7 in the SIAC. Edward Waters fell to 7-22 overall and 7-10 in the SIAC.
After dropping the first set, the Lady Tigers came out strong in the second set, scoring eight points in a row to take an 11-3 lead. After an Edward Waters point, Benedict scored four more points in a row to increase the lead to 15-4. Benedict closed out the set with a kill by
Desire' Young.
Benedict jumped out to an early 11-3 lead in the third set, but Edward Waters rallied to cut the lead to 12-10. Benedict scored seven of the next eight points for a 19-11 lead and closed out the set with a block from
T'yannah Lake.
The fourth set was tight, with Edward Waters holding a 14-12 lead before Benedict went on to take an 18-16 lead. A kill by
Nyla Troncoso and a pair of EWU errors gave Benedict a 22-19 lead. Edward Waters scored the next two points to cut the lead to 22-21, but Benedict closed out the match with three straight points on a pair of kills by Young and an EWU error.
Troncoso led Benedict with 13 kills, while Lake added 10 kills and had 15 digs for a double-double.
Willow Alls had 25 assists and a season-high 24 digs.
Benedict closes out the regular season on Saturday at 1 p.m., when they take on Savannah State, and the Lady Tigers will honor three seniors – Lake,
Brandi Seaborn and
Jordan Williams.
