COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Benedict College Lady Tigers picked up their first victory of the season by totally dominating Paine College 106-39 on Monday night in the Benjamin E. Mays HRC Arena.
The Lady Tigers forced 44 Paine turnovers, converting those into 51 points. They also blocked 10 Paine shots and held Paine to 22 percent shooting (13-of-59). Paine, now 0-4, has lost all four games by an average of 48.5 points.
Offensively, 16 of Benedict's 18 players scored.
Kayla Horton scored a team-high 19 points, while
Ciara Hardy added 15 points and
Jaleya Ford chipped in 11 points.
Benedict scored the first 14 points of the game, and had a 30-9 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Lady Tigers scored the first 17 points of the second quarter to increase the lead to 47-9, and held a 53-15 lead at the half. Benedict increased the lead to 78-27 heading into the fourth quarter. Benedict had its largest lead, 106-31, with 2:08 remaining in the game.
The Lady Tigers, now 1-1, will open SIAC play at Lane College on Nov. 30.
