TUSKEGEE, Ala. – Tuskegee used a 26-3 run in the first half to build a big lead and went on to take an 85-47 victory in the SIAC opener for the Benedict men's basketball team on Tuesday night.
Tuskegee pulled away from a 7-7 tie as Benedict went 1-for-12 from the floor and committed five turnovers as Tuskegee took a 33-10 lead with 6:50 left in the first half. Tuskegee led 47-19 at the half. Benedict never got closer than 23 points in the second half, and trailed by as much as 40 points, 85-45, with 1:19 remaining.
Benedict shot 24.6 percent (15-of-61), and 8.7 percent (2-for-23) from 3-point range.
Johnny Taylor Jr. led Benedict with nine points, while
Tony Webb Jr. added eight points and blocked five shots.
Tuskegee (1-4 overall, 1-1 in the SIAC) won its first game of the season in its home opener. Benedict (0-4 overall, 0-1 in the SIAC) will play a non-conference game against Augusta University next Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the HRC Arena.
