COLUMBIA, S.C. – Elizabeth City State University outscored Benedict 16-7 in the fourth quarter to take a 64-54 victory in a non-conference women's basketball game on Friday night in the Benjamin E. Mays HRC Arena in the season opener for both teams.
The Lady Tigers used a 12-5 run in the third quarter to cut an eight-point ECSU lead to one point, 48-47, heading into the fourth quarter.
A layup by
Alaysia Nash to start the fourth quarter gave Benedict a 49-48 lead to give the Lady Tigers their first lead since early in the third quarter. But the Lady Tigers shot just 3-of-17 (17.65 percent) in the fourth quarter, while the Lady Vikings made 7-of-13 (53.85 percent) in the fourth quarter.
Nash and
Ciara Hardy led the Lady Tigers with 12 points each, while
Taylor Christmas finished with 11 points.
The Lady Tigers will host Paine College on Monday, Nov. 18 at 5:30 p.m.
