COLUMBIA, S.C. – Tampa put five players in double figures and connected on 12 3-pointers to defeat the Benedict College Tigers 100-79 in a non-conference men's basketball game on Saturday night in the Benjamin E. Mays HRC Arena.
The Spartans opened the game with a 3-pointer, jumped out to a quick 25-8 lead, and never trailed in the contest. Tampa had a 47-34 lead at the half and maintained a double-digit lead throughout the second half.
Donte Whymns led the Tigers with 21 points and nine rebounds.
Caleb Hymon added 19 points.
Parker Grant came off the bench to chip in 13 points.
Benedict, now 0-2 on the season, will play Mars Hill College on Friday at 7 p.m. in the HRC Arena.
