COLUMBIA, S.C. – Fayetteville State University opened the fourth quarter with a 10-2 run to open up an 11-point lead and held on to take a 70-57 victory over Benedict College in a non-conference women's basketball game on Wednesday night in the Benjamin E. Mays HRC Arena.
The Lady Tigers scored the final seven points of the third quarter to cut Fayetteville State's lead to 43-39 heading into the fourth quarter. Benedict hit a free throw to make it 43-40, the Broncos scored the next six points before
Taylor Christmas hit a field goal. Fayetteville State scored the next four points to make it 53-42 with 6:09 left to play.
Fayetteville State was able to increase the lead to as much as 15 points, 64-49, with 3:12 remaining.
Christmas led the Lady Tigers, now 2-3 overall, with 14 points and a team-high seven rebounds.
Raven Johnson chipped in with 12 points. Fayetteville State, now 5-4, had four players in double figures, and forced 28 Benedict turnovers.
The Lady Tigers will take on Miles College in SIAC action on Saturday at 1 p.m. in the HRC Arena.
