COLUMBIA, S.C. – Miles College forced 30 Benedict turnovers and the defending SIAC champions defeated the Lady Tigers 65-52 in a SIAC women's basketball contest Saturday afternoon in the Benjamin E. Mays HRC Arena.
Benedict shot 32.8 percent for the game, including just 20 percent (3-of-15) in the fourth quarter as Miles pulled away from a close game.
Benedict falls to 2-4 overall and 1-2 in the SIAC. Miles improves to 5-1 overall and 3-0 in the SIAC.
The Lady Tigers took a 47-45 lead early in the fourth quarter after a layup by
Raven Johnson. Miles then scored 15 unanswered points for a 60-47 lead with 2:20 left in the game.
Johnson and
Taylor Christmas scored seven points each to lead the Lady Tigers.
Benedict trailed 21-11 in the second quarter, but went on a 10-1 run to cut the lead to 22-21 and trailed 26-22 at the half. The game remained close in the third quarter, and the two teams entered the fourth quarter tied at 43.
Benedict returns to action on Monday night in another SIAC contest, hosting Spring Hill College at 5:30 p.m.
