COLUMBIA, S.C. –
Tim Moore scored 18 points – 14 in a second-half rally – to help lead the 20
th-ranked Benedict College Tigers to an 81-79 come from behind victory over Fort Valley State in a SIAC men's basketball contest on Monday night in the Benjamin E. Mays HRC Arena.
The Tigers trailed by as much as 11 points, 61-50, with 11:56 remaining in the game before Moore ignited an eight-point run with a dunk. A layup by
Marshaun West tied the game at 63-63 with 7:49 left.
The Tigers got another dunk by Moore, then two free throws by Moore with 1:55 left in the game to give Benedict its first lead since the first minute of the game, 77-76. Moore hit two more free throws with six seconds left for a 79-76 lead.
Malachi McCoy stole the ball and followed with a dunk for an 81-76 lead with two seconds left. The Wildcats hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer for the final score.
Moore had 14 rebounds, three blocked shots and a steal to go along with his 18 points. McCoy finished with 16 points, while Calvin McCuthceon added 11 points.
Gob Gabriel and
Brandon Smith chipped in 10 points each.
The Tigers improve to 20-5 overall and 14-5 in the SIAC. Fort Valley State falls to 5-21, 5-14 in the SIAC.
Myson Lowe and Kenton Eskridge had 20 points each to lead the Wildcats.
Fort Valley State led by as much as eight points, 23-15, in the first half, but the Tigers tied it twice before the Wildcats took a 43-41 lead at the half. The Tigers opened the second half with one free throw, but the Wildcats scored the next eight points for a 51-42 lead.
The Tigers will take on Morehouse College on Saturday at 1 p.m. and will recognize their nine seniors at halftime.
