MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Benedict College baseball team swept a SIAC doubleheader against LeMoyne-Owen College on Saturday by identical 16-2 scores.
In the first game,
Jamell Mitchell Jr. went 3-for-5 and drove in four runs and stole three bases.
Taj Bates went 4-for-5 and drove in three runs.
Justin Murray went 2-for-4 with three RBIs.
Jose Gil had a solo home run.
Nicholas Gioia went the distance on the mound, scattering eight hits, walking just one and striking out four.
In the second game, the Tigers jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the first inning, then added six more in the third inning.
Bates went 2-for-4 and drove in five runs, getting a three-run homer to center field in the third inning. Murray went 3-for-4 and drove in two runs. Mitchell went 2-for-3 and drove in a pair of runs, getting an RBI double in the sixth inning.
Jalen McDuffie also drove in a pair of runs.
Kenyan Conner Jr. went the distance on the mound, allowing just four hits, no earned runs, while issuing three walks and striking out five.
Benedict, now 6-4 overall and 5-3 in the SIAC, will take on the Magicians (0-8 overall, 0-8 in the SIAC) in the third game of the series on Sunday at 1 p.m.
