ATLANTA, Ga. – The Benedict College Tigers rallied with five runs in the top of the seventh inning to defeat Morehouse 12-8 in the second game to earn a split in their SIAC baseball doubleheader on Saturday.
Morehouse won the first game of the day 15-5.
In the second game,
Jose Gil hit a single in the seventh inning to score the tying run, making it 8-8. With the bases loaded,
Taj Bates drew a walk to bring home the go-ahead run. A fielder's choice, an error, and a bases-loaded balk made it 12-8. Benedict scored five runs in the inning on just one hit and two Morehouse errors.
Bates went 2-for-3 with three RBIs, while
Justin Murray went 2-for-4 with two RBIs.
In the first game, Morehouse pounded out 17 hits. Morehouse broke open a close game with four runs in the fifth inning to take a 9-4 lead. They added two more runs in the seventh and closed out the game with four runs in the eighth inning.
Kent Johnson went 2-for-3 with a solo home run. Gil drove in a pair of runs.
Jalen McDuffie went 2-for-4 with an RBI.
The Tigers, now 10-13 overall and 9-12 in the SIAC, will play a non-conference doubleheader against Morris College on Monday at Tiger Field, starting at 1 p.m.
