SAVANNAH, Ga. – The Benedict College men's basketball team shot a season-best 58.9 percent from the floor, and cruised to a 96-75 victory over Tuskegee in the quarterfinals of the 2024 SIAC Men's Basketball Championship presented by Cricket on Friday in Tiger Arena on the campus of Savannah State University.
The Tigers, now 23-6 overall and the third seed from the SIAC East Division, advance to the semifinals to take on Clark Atlanta, the top seed from the East, at 3 p.m. on Saturday.
The Tigers broke away from a 13-13 tie with a 15-2 run to take a 28-15 lead midway through the first half and never looked back. The Tigers had a 47-34 lead at the half, shooting better than 60 percent in the first half. Benedict outscored the Golden Tigers 12-3 to start the second half to build a 22-point lead and maintained a comfortable lead the rest of the way.
Benedict connected on 33-of-56 shots and had six players reach double figures.
Tim Moore led Benedict with 19 points, while
Malachi McCoy had a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds.
Brandon Beidleman and
Gob Gabriel each had 12 points,
Brandon Smith scored 11, and
Asanti Price chipped in 10. The Tigers were hot from beyond the arc, connecting on 11-of-25 (44 percent) of their 3-point attempts.
Tuskegee, the second seed from the SIAC West Division, ends its season at 13-15. Martez Jones led the Golden Tigers with 22 points.
