ALBANY, Ga. – The Benedict College women's volleyball team went 2-2 at the first SIAC Crossover over the weekend.
On Friday, Benedict opened play with a 3-0 victory over LeMoyne-Owen, taking an easy 25-10, 25-11, 25-16 victory. In the second match of the day, Lane College took a hard-fought 3-1 victory. Lane won the match 26-28, 25-18, 25-22, 26-24.
On Saturday, the Lady Tigers took a 3-1 victory over Tuskegee, rallying after dropping the first set to take a 20-25, 25-20, 25-10, 25-13 victory. They wrapped up with a 3-0 loss to Spring Hill, playing the five-time SIAC champions tough in a 21-25, 24-26, 20-25 loss.
Benedict moves to 5-3 overall and 2-2 in the SIAC.
T'yannah Lake had 10 kills against LeMoyne-Owen, while hitting .667. Benedict hit .319 as a team. The Lady Tigers served 10 aces, with
Jadyn Murry recording five aces.
Against Lane,
Desire' Young had nine kills. In that match, Lane pulled away in the second set from an 18-17 score and scored seven of the final eight points. In the third set, Benedict rallied from a 21-14 deficit to tie the score at 22. Lane scored the final three points to claim the set. The fourth set was close, but the Lady Tigers pulled away at the end to take a 24-22 lead. Lane scored the final four points to pull out the win.
Against Tuskegee, Lake and Young had 14 kills each, while
Kaiah Green added 10 kills.
Willow Alls had 26 assists and 14 digs.
Young had nine kills against Spring Hill to lead Benedict. Benedict had a 24-21 lead in the second set, but couldn't close out the set, as Spring Hill scored five points in a row for a 26-24 win.
Benedict returns home to take on rival Allen University on Friday night at 6:30 p.m.
