Box Score SALISBURY, N.C. – The Benedict College men's volleyball team opened the 2025 season on Thursday, falling to Catawba College 3-0.
Catawba won the match 25-19, 25-20, 25-18 to improve to 3-3 on the season.
Benedict had a 12-10 lead in the first set, but Catawba scored the next three points to take the lead and held on to capture the first set 25-19. The second set was close, with the Tigers getting a kill by
Camron Petillo to tie the score at 17. The Indians scored the next three points to take the lead, and then closed out the set by scoring five of the final six points. Catawba scored the first six points of the third set and had a 14-5 lead and cruised to the final 25-18 victory.
Zion Beckford led the Tigers with nine kills, while
Jared Brown added eight kills.
Kendersley Marcellin had 20 assists and
Cameron Long led the defense with seven digs.
The Tigers travel to Cleveland, Ga., on Feb. 1 for a tri-match against Milligan and Truett McConnell.
