JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Edward Waters held off a Benedict rally to take a 3-2 victory on Saturday in SIAC women's volleyball action, handing the Lady Tigers their first conference loss of the season.
Edward Waters won the match 25-22, 25-16, 17-25, 19-25, 15-12 to improve to 3-7 overall and 3-2 in the SIAC. Benedict falls to 10-2 overall and 5-1 in the SIAC.
After Edward Waters took the first two sets, the Lady Tigers rallied to win the next two and send the match to a deciding fifth set. The set was close early, with the score tied at six each before Edward Waters scored the next five points. Benedict rallied with the next four points, all from Edward Waters errors, but EWU closed out the set by scoring four of the final six points, including the final two points.
Mia Burgess and
Nyla Troncoso led Benedict with 11 kills each.
Willow Alls recorded 23 assists. Burgess also had a season-high 15 digs.
Benedict returns to action with a non-conference match against Claflin at 6 p.m. on Tuesday in the Benjamin E. Mays HRC Arena.
