FRANKFORT, Ky. – Kentucky State shot 48.3 percent, including 60 percent from 3-point range, to hand the Benedict College women's basketball team their first loss of the season, 75-63, on Saturday afternoon.
Kentucky State, 2-2 overall and 2-1 in the SIAC, used a 10-2 run to close out the first half to take a 40-32 lead. The Lady Tigers were able to cut the lead to 42-37 in the third quarter, but the Thorobreds built the lead to 53-41 at the end of the third quarter, and maintained a double-digit lead in the fourth quarter.
Benedict falls to 1-1 on the season, 1-1 in the SIAC.
Aaliyah Lawrence led the Lady Tigers with 20 points, while
Alaysia Nash scored 13 points.
Benedict struggled from long range, making just 1-of-10 3-pointers, while Kentucky State made 9-of-15.
Benedict will play their home opener on Tuesday, when they entertain Clark Atlanta at 5:30 p.m.
