INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The NCAA has released its first Football Super Region Two rankings, and the Benedict College Tigers are third.
Benedict trails West Florida and Albany State in the region rankings. Benedict is listed with a 7-1 overall Division II record and 7-1 in-region record, due to the fact that last Saturday's victory over Virginia University of Lynchburg is a non-NCAA school. Albany State is also listed with an 8-0 overall Division II record and 8-0 in-region, as their loss to Division I Florida A&M does not count in their Division II ranking.
Following Benedict are Newberry and Wingate, a pair of schools from the South Atlantic Conference, followed by Kentucky State from the SIAC and Delta State from the Gulf South Conference.
Super Region Two is comprised of schools from the SIAC, Conference Carolinas, Gulf South Conference and South Atlantic Conference. The conference champions from each conference will receive an automatic bid to the NCAA championship, with three at-large selections.
Seven teams in the final region rankings will advance to the NCAA Division II playoffs, which begin Nov. 22. The No. 1 seed will have a bye until the second round on Nov. 29. The first three rounds will be played on campus stadiums, with the national championship set for Dec. 20 in McKinney, Texas.
The official selection show will take place on Sunday, Nov. 16 at 6 p.m. on NCAA.com.
