FAIRFIELD, Ala. – The Benedict College Tigers rallied from a 24-point second-half deficit to cut the lead to two points with six seconds remaining, but Miles College held on for a 65-61 victory in a SIAC men's basketball game on Thursday night in Knox-Windham Gymnasium.
The 20
th-ranked Golden Bears extended their home winning streak to 22 games and improved to 5-0 overall and 5-0 in the SIAC. Benedict falls to 3-2 overall and 3-2 in the SIAC.
Miles scored the final seven points of the first half to take a 42-27 lead at the half, and built the lead to 55-31 with 16:26 remaining. The Tigers went on a 13-0 run to trim the lead to 55-44 with 11:58 left to play. After Miles had a 61-46 lead, the Tigers went on another run, scoring 11 unanswered points to cut the lead to 61-57 with 3:13 on the clock after a 3-pointer by
Malachi Chavis.
Cole White hit two free throws with six seconds left to make it 63-61. Miles sealed the game with a pair of free throws with three seconds on the clock.
White led the Tigers with 17 points. Chavis and
Kameron Foman added 10 points each. Foman also grabbed a team-high nine rebounds.
Benedict will continue its Alabama road trip with a contest against Tuskegee on Saturday at 3 p.m. Central (4 p.m. Eastern). The game will be available to watch on
