FAIRFIELD, Ala. – Miles College outscored Benedict 9-4 in the final four minutes to defeat Benedict College 61-54 in a SIAC women's basketball game on Thursday night.
The Lady Tigers fall to 2-4 overall and 2-4 in the SIAC. The 24
th-ranked Lady Bears improved to 7-2 overall and 5-0 in the SIAC.
Benedict used a 10-0 run in the third quarter to take a 40-33 lead, their largest of the game. Miles rallied to score the next nine points to regain the lead, 42-40, and had a 45-44 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
The game remained close in the fourth quarter. A layup by
Asiah Harris cut the lead to 52-50 with 4:01 left in the game. Miles hit a 3-pointer, then scored a layup for a 57-50 lead with 1:42 remaining. A jumper by
Miracle Millinghaus made it 59-54 with 30 seconds remaining, but the Lady Bears closed out the game with a pair of free throws.
Miles jumped out to a 12-point lead, 24-12, in the second quarter, but the Lady Tigers scored the next 12 points to tie the game. Miles held a 33-28 lead at the half.
Alaysia Nash led the Lady Tigers with 14 points, while
Asiah Harris had a double-double with 10 points and 14 rebounds.
Andrea Duncan added 10 points.
Raven Johnson grabbed 10 rebounds and recorded a career-high five blocked shots.
Benedict will continue its road trip with a game against Tuskegee on Saturday at 1 p.m. Central (2 p.m. Eastern).
