COLUMBIA, S.C. –
T'yannah Lake hit a grand slam with two outs in the sixth inning to help the Benedict College Lady Tigers rally over Columbia College for a 7-6 victory in the first game of a non-conference doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon at Columbia College's Sutton Softball Complex.
Columbia College hit a two-out RBI single in the bottom of the fifth inning to take a 3-2 victory in the second game of the doubleheader.
Lake went 2-for-4 with six RBIs in the first game. She also drove in two runs with a single in the third inning after Benedict had fallen behind 6-0. Benedict was still trailing 6-2 going into the sixth inning when
Cayla Crooks led off with a single and
Elisha Ramirez followed with a single to left field.
Heaven Strickland hit a one-out infield single to load the bases.
Megan Blanks hit a sacrifice fly to cut the lead to 6-3.
Shamaria Dupree walked to load the bases with two outs, setting up Lake's homer to center field.
Lake continued with the hot bat in the second game, going 3-for-3.
Benedict opens SIAC play this weekend with a three-game series against Fort Valley State. They are scheduled for a doubleheader on Saturday starting at 1 p.m., with the third game set for Sunday at 1 p.m.
