COLUMBIA, S.C. – Allen University outscored Benedict 24-12 in the fourth quarter to take a 79-71 victory in a SIAC women's basketball game on Saturday afternoon in the Benjamin E. Mays HRC Arena.
Allen used a 9-0 run in the fourth quarter to take the lead for good and built a 73-65 lead with 3:36 left in the game.
The Lady Tigers fall to 9-16 overall and 7-11 in the SIAC. Allen improves to 17-8 overall and 12-6 in the SIAC.
Benedict had a six point lead at the half, and opened the second half with a layup by
Ghylissa Knowles for a 44-36 lead. Allen then scored nine straight points to pull ahead 45-41 with 5:19 left in the third quarter. The game stayed close the rest of the quarter, with the Lady Tigers holding a 59-55 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
Allen scored the first six points of the fourth quarter for a 61-59 lead. A layup by
Ciara Hardy gave the Lady Tigers a 63-61 lead with 6:42 remaining. The Yellow Jackets then scored the next nine points as the Lady Tigers missed their next six field goal attempts.
Taiyee Treasure scored a career-high 16 points and grabbed a career-high nine rebounds to lead the Lady Tigers.
Taylor Christmas added 15 points and
Kaya Evans scored 12 points.
Benedict will wrap up the regular season on Monday night, hosting Clark Atlanta at 5:30. Benedict will honor seven seniors as part of their senior day festivities.
