ATLANTA, Ga. – The Benedict College men's volleyball team extended their winning streak to five matches and 15 consecutive sets with a 3-0 victory over Morehouse on Friday night.
Benedict won the match 25-23, 25-18, 25-21 to improve to 9-7 overall and 3-3 in the SIAC. Morehouse falls to 0-11 overall and 0-8 in the SIAC.
Zion Beckford led the Tigers with 12 kills, and
Jared Brown added nine kills and three blocks.
Hakan Godoy had six kills and five blocks.
Kendersley Marcellin recorded 31 assists, and also contributed three blocks.
Cameron Long led the defense with eight digs.
The first set was close, with Benedict holding a 15-14 lead before going on a run to take a 22-16 lead. Morehouse scored seven of the next nine points to cut the lead to 24-23, but Benedict got a kill from Brown to close out the first set.
Benedict used a 9-1 run in the second set to take a 15-7 lead and held off Morehouse.
The third set was tied at 19 before Benedict used a late surge, scoring five of the next six points for a 24-20 lead. After a Morehouse kill, Benedict wrapped up the match with a kill by Godoy.
Benedict is back in action with a non-conference match against Catawba College on Wednesday at 6 p.m. in the HRC Arena.
