COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Benedict College softball team cruised to a pair of run-rule victories over Allen University on Saturday afternoon at Tiger Field.
Benedict won the first game 8-0 in five innings, then took the second game 10-2 in five innings.
Benedict improves to 16-17 overall and 11-12 in the SIAC. Allen falls to 3-10 overall and 3-17 in the SIAC.
In the first game,
Savanna Marshall held Allen to just one hit. The Lady Tigers scored seven runs in the first inning, thanks to a three-run homer by
Elisha Ramirez.
In the second game, Allen started the game off with a two-run homer in the first inning, but Benedict tied the game in the bottom of the inning as
Cayla Crooks had an RBI single.
Shamaria Dupree scored the go-ahead run in the third,
T'yannah Lake and Crooks had RBI singles to give Benedict a 6-2 lead.
The Lady Tigers scored two runs on an Allen error in the fourth inning, and Benedict closed out the game with two runs in the fifth on a wild pitch.
Benedict and Allen will wrap up their conference series on Sunday at 1 p.m.
