Tigers Crush Morris In Doubleheader With 11 Home Runs

COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Benedict College Tigers hit 11 home runs in two games as they powered past Morris College in a non-conference baseball doubleheader on Monday at Tiger Field.
 
Benedict won the first game 29-5, hitting eight home runs. Juan Guardado hit three home runs and drove in six runs. Carson Fellows hit two out of the park and drove in six runs, four coming on a third-inning grand slam. Jose Gil hit a pair of homers and drove in four runs.
 
Benedict won the second game 20-8 as Fellows hit two more homers, including another grand slam, and drove in eight runs. Cameron Haley also hit a home run and drove in three runs. Guardado had only one hit, but drove in three runs.
 
For the day, Fellows went 5-for-5 with 14 RBIs. He hit four home runs, including a pair of grand slams.
 
In the first game, the Tigers scored 29 runs on just 14 hits, as the Tigers went 14-for-34 (.412) as a team at the plate. Morris went through five pitchers and struggled on the mound, walking 11 batters and hitting 10. Jayden Jordan (1-0) picked up the win on the mound for the Tigers, giving up eight hits over five innings.
 
In the second game, the Tigers continued to swing the bats, going 11-for-27 (.407), and stealing eight bases. Three Morris pitchers issued 12 walks and hit three batters. Jaquez Akins (2-2), the third Benedict pitcher, picked up the win, working three innings and not allowing a hit and striking out three.
 
Morris falls to 1-33 on the season. Benedict improves to 19-11 and will travel to take on Paine in a non-conference doubleheader on Wednesday starting at noon. Benedict returns home on Friday to start a three-game SIAC series against conference leader Spring Hill. Friday's doubleheader starts at 1 p.m., with a single game on Saturday at 1 p.m., when the Tigers will celebrate Senior Day.
