Benedict's Godoy Helps Lead Belize Men's Volleyball Team To Silver Medal Finish

COLUMBIA, S.C. – Benedict College men's volleyball player Hakan Godoy recently participated in the Final Four Masculino tournament for his native country, Belize.

The Final Four is a regional men's volleyball tournament organized by AFECAVOL, featuring the top four national teams from Central America. In July, the event was held in San Salvador, El Salvador, with teams from Guatemala, Belize, Nicaragua, and El Salvador competing. The tournament follows a round-robin format, witch each team playing against the others.

After three days of competition, Guatemala finished first with a perfect 3-0 record, while Godoy's Belize team claimed second place, earning the silver medal after beating Nicaragua and El Salvador, and narrowly losing to Guatemala in a five-set thriller.

Godoy, a middle blocker, was awarded the "Second Best Blocker" Award of the tournament. This award recognizes a player who consistently performs exceptional defensive plays at the net, specifically by blocking opponents' attacks. It means Godoy was ranked as the second most effective and dominant net defender among all participants—a major honor at this elite regional level and a testament to his timing, technique, and impact during key matches.

Last season, Godoy was named second-team All-SIAC at middle blocker. He averaged 1.51 kills per set while hitting .362 while registering 47 total blocks. He ranked third in the SIAC in hitting percentage and sixth in blocks per set.
