COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Benedict College women's volleyball team avenged their only loss of the season, defeating Livingstone 3-1 on a historic night for setter
Willow Alls.
Alls, a junior from Pickerington, Ohio, registered a season-high 31 assists in the match, as she surpassed 1,000 career assists. She now has 1,016 career assists in just over three seasons with the Lady Tigers.
Benedict won the match 25-20, 25-21, 22-25, 25-13, two days after dropping a 3-1 match at Livingstone.
Mia Burgess had 18 kills, while
Angelic Carter had a season-high 11 kills.
Desire' Young also contributed 11 kills and a solo block.
La'Jai Wilson recorded 15 digs.
The first set was tight, with Livingstone holding a 20-19 lead. Benedict then scored the final six points, which included an ace by
Akili Jones and a kill by
Krislenn Lucas.
The second set was also close, with the two teams tied at 18. Benedict then scored three straight points, getting a pair of kills from
Nyla Troncoso. The Blue Bears scored the next two points to cut the lead to 21-20. Benedict scored the next two points before Livingstone scored a point on a kill to make it 23-21. The Lady Tigers closed out the set with the final two points, with a kill by Burgess the final blow.
Benedict had a 22-20 lead in the third set, but Livingstone rallied with the final five points of the set to stretch the match to a fourth set.
The Lady Tigers used a 6-0 run early in the fourth set to take an 11-4 lead and continued to dominate the final set.
Benedict, now 4-1 on the season, is home on Tuesday against Clinton College at 6 p.m.
