ALBANY, Ga. – The Benedict College women's volleyball team wrapped up the SIAC East Cluster Crossover undefeated by sweeping a pair of matches on Friday.
Benedict defeated Lane College 3-0, then followed with a 3-0 victory over LeMoyne-Owen College to improve to 9-1 overall and 4-0 in the SIAC.
The Lady Tigers defeated Lane 25-16, 25-19, 25-16.
Mia Burgess had 10 kills, while
Desire' Young had nine kills on an impressive .583 hitting percentage.
Willow Alls recorded 18 assists. Burgess and
Kylie Jackson led the defense with six digs each.
Benedict knocked off LeMoyne-Owen 25-11, 25-12, 25-23 in the second match of the day. Burgess and Young led the offensive attack once again with nine kills each. Alls had 19 assists, while Jackson recorded 15 digs.
After dominating the first two sets, Benedict had to rally in the third set from an 18-13 deficit. The Lady Tigers scored four points in a row to tie the score at 20-20. LeMoyne-Owen pulled ahead 23-22, but Benedict closed out the set with three straight points, getting kills from
Nyla Troncoso and Young before a Lady Magician error ended the match.
Benedict returns home to face Savannah State at 6 p.m. on Tuesday in the Benjamin E. Mays HRC Arena.
