COLUMBIA, S.C. -- Following a dominating defensive effort against Clark Atlanta University, Benedict College senior linebacker Ty'Metrius Patterson picked up a pair of national awards on Tuesday.

Patterson was named the D2football.lcom national Defensive Player of the Week. He was also selected as the HBCU National Player of the Week by BoxToRow.

Patterson was the leader of a defense that produced four takeaways and three touchdowns in the Tigers' 59-24 win at Clark Atlanta. Patterson led all defenders with eight tackles, seven of them solo, with four tackles for loss of 33 yards and three sacks for loss of 28 yards. He also broke up two passes and forced two fumbles. A fourth quarter strip-sack was returned 44 yards for a touchdown by teammate Isaiah Stephens.

As the HBCU National Player of the Week, Patterson will be highlighted on the nationally syndicated sports talk show BOXTOROW with Donal Ware, which airs on radio stations across the country, and outside of the U.S. in The Bahamas and British Virgin Islands.
