COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Benedict College Tigers used an 11-1 run in the second half to pull away from a close game and beat rival Allen University 70-59 in a SIAC men's basketball game on Saturday afternoon in Allen's Adams Gymnasium.
The Yellow Jackets held a 28-26 lead at the half, and the game remained close for the first five minutes of the second half. A layup by
Landon Jeffries gave Benedict a 38-35 lead, but Allen cut the lead with a layup to make it 38-37.
The Tigers attacked the basket with
Cole White scoring a layup, followed by a dunk by
Kameron Foman. Two free throws by Foman, followed by a 3-pointer by
Caleb Hymon, and another layup by Jeffries gave Benedict a 49-38 lead with 11:17 left in the game.
After Allen cut the lead to 55-47 with 5:43 on the clock, Benedict went on another run, scoring the next eight points. Hymon led things off with another 3-pointer. A free throw by Foman gave the Tigers their largest lead, 63-47, with three minutes left.
Foman led the Tigers with 16 points and 12 rebounds.
Jordan Brewer scored 10 points, while
Cristian Willis scored a season-high 10 points. Hymon scored nine points on three 3-pointers, while grabbing seven rebounds and dishing out a team-high five assists and recorded a team-high four blocked shots.
Benedict improves to 6-7 overall and 6-7 in the SIAC. Allen falls to 2-13 overall and 1-12 in the SIAC.
The Tigers travel to Jacksonville, Fla., to take on Edward Waters on Monday.
