FORT VALLEY, Ga. – The Benedict College Lady Tigers outscored Fort Valley State 21-3 in the third quarter and cruised to a dominating 87-41 victory over the Lady Wildcats in a SIAC women's basketball game on Monday night.
Benedict, now 6-5 overall and 6-5 in the SIAC, scored the first 14 points of the game and never trailed in the contest. The Lady Tigers held a 21-11 lead at the end of the first quarter and increased the lead to 16 points, 44-28, at the half.
The Lady Tigers held FVSU (1-11 overall, 1-9 SIAC) to 1-of-14 shooting (7 percent) in the third quarter, and scored the final 14 points of the quarter to build the lead to 34 points, 65-31, heading into the final period. Another 11-point run in the fourth quarter gave Benedict its largest lead, 81-35, and the Lady Tigers cruised to the victory.
Benedict had five players reach double figures, all coming off the bench.
Ghylissa Knowles scored a season-high 17 points, hitting five 3-pointers.
Asiah Harris scored 13 points, while
Andrea Duncan added a season-high 12 points.
Jaleya Ford scored a season-high 11 points, while
Miracle Millinghaus added 10 points.
The Lady Tigers forced a season-high 37 turnovers, and scored 40 points off Fort Valley State turnovers.
Benedict will be back in action on Wednesday, Jan. 14, with a home contest against Savannah State at 5:30 p.m.
