JACKSON, Tenn. – The Benedict College women's basketball team won their sixth consecutive game with a dominating 70-47 victory over Lane College in a SAIC women's basketball game on Tuesday night.
The 47 points was a season-low for the Lady Dragons, who shot a season-low 29.5 percent (18-of-61), including just 24 percent (7-of-29) in the second half.
Benedict closed out the first quarter with an 8-2 run to take a 22-16 lead. The Lady Tigers started to pull away in the second quarter, closing out the first half with a 9-3 run to take a 44-28 lead at the midway break. Benedict pushed the lead to 59-40 heading into the fourth quarter and closed out the game with an 11-2 run.
Ghylissa Knowles hit three 3-pointers and scored a team-high 13 points.
Raven Johnson had a double-double with 12 points and grabbed a career-high 13 rebounds, while adding a pair of blocked shots.
Andrea Duncan scored 12 points, while
Gwendasia Page had 11 points and a team-leading four steals.
Benedict improves to 13-7 overall and 13-7 in the SIAC. Lane falls to 13-5 overall and 12-5 in the SIAC.
The Lady Tigers return to action on Saturday, when they host rival Allen University at 1 p.m. as part of Reunion Weekend. All Benedict alumni, and especially former student-athletes, are encouraged to return and support the Benedict teams.
