COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Benedict College Lady Tigers saw their seven-game winning streak come to an end, as Edward Waters took a 51-43 victory in SIAC women's basketball action on Monday night.
The Lady Tigers got within three points, 33-30, with 4:17 left in the third quarter before Edward Waters went on a 7-0 run to take a 10-point lead. A jumper by
Andrea Duncan got Benedict within four points, 40-36, at the start of the fourth quarter, but that was as close as the Lady Tigers would get. Edward Waters scored the next five points for a 45-36 lead with 4:56 remaining.
Benedict falls to 14-8 overall and 14-8 in the SIAC. Edward Waters, the top team in the SIAC East Division, improves to 21-5 overall and 19-3 in the SIAC.
Monday was the final home game of the season for the Lady Tigers, who honored three seniors –
Kayla Fisher,
Ghylissa Knowles, and
Jordan Tanksley during halftime festivities.
Alaysia Nash led Benedict with 10 points.
The Lady Tigers struggled from the floor, shooting 30 percent (15-of-50), and 13 percent (2-of-15) from 3-point range.
Benedict will wrap up with a pair of road games, traveling to Spring Hill College on Thursday before closing out the regular season at Albany State on Saturday.
