CLEVELAND, Ga. – Truett McConnell recorded 57 kills, compared to 32 for Benedict to take a 3-1 victory in a non-conference men's volleyball match on Friday night.
The match was close throughout, with Truett McConnell winning by scores of 25-20, 27-25, 20-25, 25-23.
The Tigers (2-3) hit just .053 in the match, recording 32 kills on 113 total attacks with 26 attack errors. The Bears (5-7) recorded 57 total kills and hit .128, committing 39 errors on 141 total attacks.
Camron Petillo led Benedict with seven kills, while
Mallik Foreman,
Jared Brown and
Hakan Godoy all had six kills. Benedict had a big advantage in blocks, recording 14 total blocks. Godoy recorded one solo block and nine block assists. Brown had one solo block and five block assists.
Kaden Hoyte dished out 23 assists and had two solo blocks.
Cameron Long had 11 digs.
In the second set, Truett McConnell had a 24-19 lead, but Benedict fought off set point and scored the next six points. Truett McConnell then scored the final three points to clinch the set.
The Tigers had a 22-16 lead late in the third set. Benedict won the set on a kill by
Denzel Pepper.
The fourth set was close again, with the score tied at 16 before the Bears scored the next three points. Benedict closed within 24-23 on a kill by Godoy, but Truett McConnell closed out the match with a kill.
Benedict and Truett McConnell will have a rematch on Monday at 7 p.m. in the Benjamin E. Mays HRC Arena.
