COLUMBIA, S.C. – Miles College pulled away from a close contest in the second half to take a 58-51 victory over the Benedict College Tigers in a SIAC men's basketball game on Thursday night in the Benjamin E. Mays HRC Arena.
 
In a low-scoring defensive battle, the game was tied at 35 midway through the second half. The Golden Bears went on to build a 45-38 lead with 6:05 left to play and held on for the victory.
 
Caleb Hymon hit a 3-pointer to cut the lead to 53-50 with 33 seconds left to play. Miles hit a free throw, and Cristian Willis hit one free throw for the Tigers to make it 54-51 with 12 seconds left. Miles sealed the game with four free throws in the final 10 seconds.
 
Landon Jeffries and Tareeq Anderson scored 10 points each to lead the Tigers, who fall to 8-9 overall and 8-9 in the SIAC. Miles improves to 15-5 overall and 13-5 in the SIAC.
 
Benedict is back in action on Saturday, hosting Tuskegee at 3 p.m.
