FRANKFORT, Ky. – The Benedict College men's volleyball team took a 3-1 victory over Kentucky State on Friday.
The Tigers won the match 25-13, 13-25, 25-16, 25-22 to improve to 7-6 overall and 3-2 in the SIAC. Kentucky State falls to 6-17 overall and 0-4 in the SIAC.
Camron Petillo and
Jared Brown led the Tigers with 10 kills each.
Matthew Dimapan had 30 assists, while
Cameron Long recorded a team-high 14 digs.
Benedict jumped out to an early 10-2 lead in the first set, and increased that to 14-3. Kentucky State rallied to cut the lead to 15-9, but the Tigers scored six of the next seven points for a 21-10 lead. A KYSU service error closed out the set.
The Thorobreds scored the final eight points to take the second set.
Benedict hit .393 in the third set, and used several short 3-0 runs to build a 22-12 lead. A kill by
Jared Brown closed out the set.
Kentucky State jumped out to an early 8-5 lead in the fourth set, but the Tigers scored the next five points to take the lead. The Thorobreds tied the score at 19, but Benedict scored the next five points, getting a pair of kills from Brown, for a 24-19 lead. Kentucky State scored the next three points before
Denzel Pepper clinched the match with a kill.
Benedict and Kentucky State will face off again on Saturday at 1 p.m.
