COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Benedict College softball team rallied with three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning and snapped a six-game losing streak with an 8-7 victory over Edward Waters on Sunday afternoon at Tiger Field.
Edward Waters scored one run in the sixth inning to take a 7-5 lead. In the bottom of the seventh,
Hope Gunn hit a one-out infield single. With two outs,
Jasmine Cadore walked. An Edward Waters fielding error allowed both Gunn and Cadore to score and tie the game and allowed
Cayla Crooks to advance to third base. Crooks then scored the winning run on a passed ball.
The Lady Tigers had five hits in the game, with
Myia Lambert going 2-for-4 with one RBI.
Heaven Strickland,
Alexis Gatlin and Gunn had the other hits. Lambert and Gatlin had RBI doubles in the first inning to tie the score at 3-3.
A EWU error allowed Benedict to tie the score at 4-4 in the fourth inning.
The Lady Tigers, now 5-24 overall and 4-14 in the SIAC, plays at Morris College in Sumter on Wednesday for a non-conference doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
