ATLANTA, Ga. –
Bridget Williams scored 20 points to lead the Benedict College women's basketball team to a 70-56 SIAC victory over Clark Atlanta University on Monday night.
The Lady Tigers opened up a big lead in the first half and maintained their lead in the second half to improve to 4-1 on the season and remain unbeaten in the SIAC with a 3-0 conference record.
Benedict broke open an 11-9 game by outscoring the Panthers 30-11 to take a 21-point lead with 1:48 left in the first half. Clark Atlanta closed out the first half by scoring the final eight points to cut the lead to 41-28 at the half.
Benedict built as much as a 15-point lead in the second half, 55-40, on a jumper by
Santera Grooms. Clark Atlanta never got closer than eight points in the second half.
The Lady Tigers forced the Lady Panthers into 33 turnovers. Benedict shot 42.9 percent for the game, compared to 35.1 percent for Clark Atlanta.
Santera Grooms added 15 points for the Lady Tigers.
Brittany Jackson led the Tigers with seven rebounds.
Benedict returns to action on Wednesday, traveling to Orangeburg to face rival Claflin.
