Box Score COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Benedict College Tigers held Lane to just 28 percent shooting and rolled to a dominating 72-46 victory over Lane College on Thursday night in the Benjamin E. Mays HRC Arena.
Tydran Beaty led the Tigers with 18 points, while
Xavier Collier added 17 points and five assists.
Marcus Goode had a double-double with 11 points and 13 rebounds, while blocking four shots.
The Tigers, 3-1 in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and 7-5 overall, won their third straight game, winning by an average of 21 points in that streak.
Benedict out-rebounded Lane 52-28.
The Tigers started out hot. After Lane cut the early lead to 11-7, Benedict went on a 9-1 run for a 20-8 lead on a Goode jumper with 13:13 left in the first half. Benedict maintained its double-digit lead for the rest of the game.
A jumper by
Rickie Jackson with 1:19 left in the half, and a free throw by Collier with 1:05 left gave Benedict its biggest lead of the half, 40-21, heading into the intermission.
An 11-2 run in the second half gave the Tigers a 66-38 lead with 6:54 left to play. Benedict's biggest lead came on a layup by Goode with 2:13 left in the game, 72-40.
Jacualen Franklin led Lane with nine points. The Dragons dropped to 0-4 in the SIAC and 1-7 overall.
The Tigers are back in action on Saturday afternoon, traveling to play Kentucky State.
