Box Score FORT VALLEY, Ga. – The Fort Valley State Lady Wildcats rallied back from a 15-point deficit and defeated the Benedict College Lady Tigers 65-58 on Monday night in an SIAC women's basketball game.
Benedict fell to 12-6 overall and 6-2 in the SIAC with its second straight loss. Fort Valley State improved to 8-9 overall and 6-2 in the SIAC.
The Lady Tigers had their biggest lead, 34-19, after a free throw by Kadeeja Vaughn with 52 seconds left in the first half. Benedict took a 34-22 lead into the halftime break.
Benedict shot just 24 percent in the second half, making 8 of 33 attempts. And Benedict made just one of 16 3-point attempts in the second half. Benedict also struggled at the free-throw line, going 10-of-23 (43.5 percent) from the stripe.
Fort Valley State took its first lead of the second half at 43-42 with 11:03 left to play. Benedict got layups from
Jasmine Stubbs and Vaughn to regain the lead at 46-43 with 9:57 left to play. Then the Lady Wildcats scored 11 straight points to take a 54-46 lead with 2:38 left to play.
Amanda Tolliver led Benedict with 22 points, while
Santera Grooms had 10 points and nine rebounds.
Antionna Jefferson led Fort Valley State with 16 points, while Carmenonique Dawson added 15.
The Lady Tigers return to the court next Monday, January 27, hosting Clark Atlanta University.
