HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The University of Alabama Huntsville went on a 19-3 run in the second half to pull away from Benedict and defeat the Tigers 64-52 on Saturday in a non-conference men's basketball game in the Gene Lusk Classic.
Benedict dropped to 0-2 on the season. Alabama Huntsville improved to 4-0.
The Tigers trailed by as much as 12 points in the first half, 21-9, before rallying to tie the game at 25 at the half on a 3-pointer by 
Andrew Crawford with 19 seconds left.
A layup by 
Brennan Reynard gave Benedict a 33-30 lead, its largest of the game, with 16:04 left in the second half. Spencer Palmer tied the game with a 3-pointer for the Chargers and Greg Gardner followed with another 3-pointer. After Crawford scored a layup, the Chargers got another 3-pointer by Seab Webster for a 39-35 lead.
Benedict cut the lead to 42-46 with 10:53 left on a free throw by 
Lafonzo Smith, but the Chargers scored the next seven points for a 52-38 lead.
After going 2-for-12 on 3-pointers in the first half, UAH hit 5-of-11 treys in the second half.
Crawford led the Tigers with 14 points, while 
Deonte Johnson added 10 points.
Preston Herring led UAH with 19 points, while Webster chipped in 12.
The Tigers are back on the court on Sunday when they take on Union College at 2 p.m. in the second day of the Gene Lusk Classic in Hunstville.
