HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The Benedict College Tigers fell behind by as much as 27 points before staging a strong, late rally, but it wasn't enough as Union College (Tenn.) defeated the Tigers 76-68 on Sunday afternoon in the Gene Lusk Classic hosted by the University of Alabama Huntsville.
The Tigers fell to 0-3 on the season. Union improved to 5-0.
Union used an 11-0 run in the first half to take a 30-11 lead and led 43-23 at the half. Union increased the lead to 58-31 with12:59 left in the game.
Benedict went on a 12-0 run in the second half to cut the lead to 64-58 with 3:58 to play, but the Tigers couldn't get any closer.
Brennan Reynard led the Tigers with 15 points, while
Andrew Crawford added 12.
Deonte Johnson had a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds.
Jordan Montgomery led Union with 29 points. He made 6-of-9 3-pointers.
Benedict is home on Saturday at 3 p.m. against Coker College.
