Box Score ATLANTA – Clark Atlanta used an 8-0 run in the second half to pull away from a close game and take a 64-54 victory over the Benedict College Lady Tigers on Saturday.
The loss dropped Benedict to 16-8 overall and 10-4 in the SIAC. Clark Atlanta improved to 15-6 overall and 8-3 in the SIAC.
Benedict had a 29-27 lead at the half, and the game remained close, with neither team leading by more than three points, for the first 13 minutes of the second half. Benedict tied the game at 47 after a free throw by
Amanda Toliver with 7:28 left to play. But the Lady Tigers missed their next five shots and committed three turnovers as the Lady Panthers pulled ahead 55-47 with four minutes left to play.
Toliver hit a 3-pointer with 56 seconds left to cut the lead to 58-52, but Clark Atlanta was able to seal the game at the free throw line, hitting eight free throws.
The Lady Tigers struggled from the floor, making just 27.5 percent of their shots for game (19-of-69) and made just four of 25 3-point attempts.
Latoya Fairley led Benedict with 20 points, while
Santera Grooms added 12 points.
Erika Stumper led Clark Atlanta with 23 points, while Conisha Hicks added 20.
Benedict returns to action on Thursday to face Claflin in Orangeburg.
