COLUMBIA, S.C. – Benedict College's
Terae Sweeting and
Stephanie Rhoden have been named to the Capital One Academic All-District women's track & field/cross country team, while
Geovanni West was named to the men's track & field/cross country team.
They were all named to the Division II District 5 team. District 5 is composed of colleges and universities from the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC), Sunshine State Conference and Gulf South Conference. The three Benedict selections were the only representatives from the SIAC on the 13-member women's squad and 12-member men's squad.
Sweeting earns All-District honors for the second year in a row. A junior, she finished third in the javelin throw at the SIAC championship, where she was the conference's defending champion. She was named first-team All-Conference and All-Region in the javelin throw by the USTFCCCA. Sweeting is an accounting major with a 3.97 GPA.
Rhoden was the SIAC champion in the 400 meters and third in the 200 meters. She was first-team All-Conference in the 400 meters and was named All-Region in both the 200 and 400 meters. She is a sophomore majoring in computer engineering and has a 3.95 GPA.
West finished 23
rd overall at the SIAC men's cross country championship, and was eighth in the men's 1500 meter run at the SIAC track & field championship. He is a sophomore majoring in computer science with a 3.95 GPA.
All three will advance to the national ballot for the opportunity to make one of the Capital One Academic All-America® teams. The teams are selected by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
