MOBILE, Ala. –
Jordan Smith scored a season-high 15 points to help lead the Benedict College Tigers to a 51-39 victory over Spring Hill College in an SIAC men's basketball contest on Saturday afternoon.
The Tigers held the Badgers to 35.9 percent shooting and 19 points in the second half to secure the victory. Benedict improved to 5-5 overall and 3-1 in the SIAC. Spring Hill College fell to 2-11 overall and 1-3 in the SIAC.
Lafonzo Smith added nine points and
Brennan Reynard chipped in seven for the Tigers.
Benedict went on an early 13-1 run to an 18-6 lead with 7:53 left in the first half. Benedict held a 27-20 lead at the half.
Spring Hill cut the lead to one point, 36-35, with 14:32 left to play, but the Tigers responded with a jumper by
Jordan Smith. Spring Hill made it 41-38 on a 3-pointer by Jack Morrissey with 6:51 on the clock, but Reynard answered with a 3-pointer to give the Tigers a six-point lead. Spring Hill cut it to 46-39 with two minutes left, but the Tigers scored the final five points to clinch the victory.
Benedict wraps up its road trip with a conference contest against Miles College on Monday at 7:30 p.m.
