MEMPHIS, Tenn. – LeMoyne-Owen University outscored Benedict 14-6 in overtime to take a 73-65 victory in an SIAC men's basketball contest Thursday night.
Jordan Smith hit a jumper with 50 seconds left in regulation to tie the contest at 59. Both teams missed a 3-point attempt in the final minute.
In overtime, Benedict opened the scoring with a layup by
Brennan Reynard, but the Magicians scored the next 10 points to take a 69-61 lead with 24 seconds left.
Benedict fell to 4-5 overall and 2-1 in the SIAC. LeMoyne-Owen improved to 6-5 overall and 3-0 in the SIAC.
Deonte Johnson led the Tigers with 14 points.
Andrew Crawford added 11 points and a team-high seven rebounds.
Lafonzo Smith added 10 points.
Dequan Mitchell led the Magicians with 24 points and pulled down eight rebounds. Jerry Hampton added 16 points, seven rebounds and six blocked shots. Demba Konate had a game-high 13 rebounds as the Magicians out-rebounded the Tigers 52-39 and had an 18-8 advantage in second-chance points.
The Tigers continue their road trip with a conference game against Spring Hill College at 3 p.m. on Saturday in Mobile, Ala.
