DUE WEST, S.C. – The Benedict College Tigers managed just five hits and dropped their season-opener 10-0 to Erskine College on Tuesday.
The Flying Fleet (1-0) scored a single run on a sacrifice fly in the first inning, but then opened up the game with two runs in the fourth and three more in the fifth. Erskine added four more runs in the seventh inning on a three-run homer by Alex Garland.
Benedict got five singles by five different players:
Kevin Davis,
Rodney Beach,
Daniel Young,
Andre Collum and
Marcelino Irizarry.
Robert Troiana III, the first of seven Benedict pitchers on the day, took the loss, giving up three runs in four innings of work.
Benedict travels to St. Augustine's on Thursday.
