RALEIGH, N.C. – The Benedict Tigers scored three runs in the fifth inning and took a 6-4 victory over Saint Augustine's College in the second game of a doubleheader for their first victory of the season.
Saint Augustine's won the first game, 10-0.
Benedict broke a 1-1 tie in the fourth inning with a run.
Mitchell Dixon led off with a double, then later came home on an error. The Tigers put three runs on the board in the fifth inning. With runners on first and second,
Marcelino Irizarry singled down the left side to score
Rodney Beach.
Daniel Young scored on a passed ball, then Dixon singled to score Irizarry.
The Falcons added two runs in the bottom of the fifth to trim the lead to 5-3. Benedict added a run in the sixth inning on back-to-back passed balls.
John Holleran led off with a single, advanced to second on a ground out, then was able to score on the passed balls.
James Roman picked up the win on the mound.
In the first game, Saint Augustine's took a 10-3 victory. The Falcons scored five runs in the second inning. Benedict scored three runs in the fourth inning to cut the lead to 6-3. Young had an RBI single and Dixon had an RBI on a sacrifice bunt. The Falcons added three more runs in the bottom of the fourth.
The Tigers take on Florida Institute of Technology on Saturday and Sunday for their home opener. Saturday's doubleheader starts at noon.
